"I
said, 'Why Father! You are not teaching me the truth!' I went to
the Bible, and could not find anything about Santa Claus. I said,
maybe these preachers are not right in everything. I guess I will
go the the Bible and see."
L.T. Nichols, Autobiography

1854:
Young L. T. (age 10) attends Christmas party, where Santa Clausą false
face falls off, revealing Deacon Graves. This started him questioning
the fundamentals of all religious beliefs, and in his young mind was formed
a firm resolve: that he would not accept any religious belief simply because
it was popular, honored and revered. His question would always be, What
does the Bible say?
